Cape Cobras visit Atlantis for Heart FM’s 16 Days For Youth Campaign

June 15, 2017

The Cape Cobras joined forces with Heart FM on Thursday, visiting Wesfleur Primary School in Atlantis, as part of Heart FM’s unique and life-changing 16 Days for Youth campaign.

The players and management of the Cape Cobras assisted in handing out soup and packing and handing out goodie bags to the learners and then helped facilitate a sports program being run by Play Sport 4 Life.

“Heart FM has dome some remarkable things in the Western Cape communities that they have visited the past couple of weeks,” said David Brooke, Brand Activations and Sponsorship Manager of the Cape Cobras.  It was a great honour for the Cape Cobras to be involved with this heart-warming campaign in Atlantis today.

“If we can help in any way to inspire these young learners to play sport, it can be the start of a very exciting journey and lead to greater things,” Brooke added.

Ashwell Prince, the Cape Cobras coach said: “It’s important for the Cobras players and management to give back to the communities who support them.

“We saw some amazing talent on show today, from talented singers and dancers to brilliant skill on the sports field; hopefully one day we’ll see one of these youngsters playing for the Cobras and even the Proteas.

“The players and management have been inspired by these children today. Wesfleur Primary School can be very proud of their learners.”

Heart FM moved the microphone to the heart of the communities during the first sixteen days of June, not only to be involved in hands-on projects, but to engage with young learners and to hear and understand their stories and their dreams.

The station shut down its broadcast studio for 16 days to undertake youth-focused projects.

The visit to Westfleur Primary School was on the penultimate day of their successful 16-day campaign.

The initiative identified projects in communities whereby the teams were able to bring people together to effect change.

This year the 16-day journey kicked off in Hawston and travelled to Grabouw, Kenilworth, Heideveld, Robertson, Worcester, Tulbagh, Malmesbury, Constantia, Mitchell’s Plain, Saldanha, Paternoster, Langebaan, Atlantis and Klipheuwel.
