The Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras started their pre-season training in June 2010. We have been busy for just over two months of intensive training. The first month consisted of lots of long slow distance running, where the boys went into the forest / mountain three times per week averaging 24 km per week.
Afterwards they trained at the Sport Science Institute five days a week doing weight training and physiological testing.
Each player has a “Logbook” that they fill in after each session, recording everything they have done.
July took us into more specific weight training as well as indoor net training. The focus is on cricket skills (batting & bowling) predominantly and the training focus shifted towards “Speed Endurance, Interval Training and Hills Sessions”.
August took us into cricket specific drills (mechanical) as well as fielding.
Every player went through a throwing specific periodized programme in order to avoid shoulder injuries. The weight training went down to three days a week with much more explosive training followed by “Speed and Agility” sessions.
