World Sports Betting Cape Cobras head coach Ashwell Prince was happy with the performance after his side defeated the Warriors in their opening Momentum One Day Cup match on Sunday but won’t be taking anything for granted when they meet the Imperial Lions at Eurolux Boland Park on Friday.

“We are really, really happy about our performance on Sunday; we didn’t think it was an easy pitch to bat on, especially in the morning they also bowled really well in the morning.”

“I am really happy about the way the batsmen went about their business, absorbing the pressure from them early on, and then later on we had a nice flourish with George (Linde) coming in and smacking a quick fire 31 off 14 balls. Obviously before that Pieter Malan (106) laying the foundation along with Jason Smith (76) with some really good batting and then we followed it up with some really good bowling and fielding.”

Thando Ntini, playing his first white-ball match for the Cobras was the top performer with the ball, taking 4/36 (9.1) and his coach was very impressed with what he has seen so far from the young cricketer.

“It is really exciting for him to be able to make his debut, and having his father there on commentary. Apart from Pieter Malan’s hundred with the batting, in terms of the bowling, he basically put in a Man of the Match performance and I’m really happy for him.”

Looking ahead to the match against the Imperial Lions on Friday, Prince expects his side to give it their all against a side with young players who will be out to make an impact.

“The Lions won their first game with a bonus point and they will have quite a few changes with a few guys playing for the Proteas that they will miss, so that might mean disruption for them, but that could also mean an opportunity for players who don’t normally get an opportunity.”

“When you have young players who don’t play regularly it can give them a boost, because it is a chance for them to go out and show what they can do.”

“Even though there are a few changes with the Lions, we won’t be taking anything for granted. Young players are always hungry to come out and perform so, we respect that and we will treat them with respect, do our business and do the best that we can!”

The match gets underway at Eurolux Boland Park at 13h30. The match will not be televised.
